Former Niger State Police Commissioner Dies at 62
Diseye Desire Nsirim, a former Commissioner of Police in Niger State, has passed away at the age of 62 after a brief illness. She died on Monday, September 21, 2026, in a hospital, as confirmed by the Niger State Police Command.
Nsirim, who was born in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, served as the 27th Commissioner of Police in Niger State from 2012 to 2014. She was notable for being the first and, to date, the only female police commissioner in the state.
During her tenure, Nsirim made significant contributions to crime prevention, public safety, and the maintenance of law and order. Among her notable achievements were the dismantling of the Darul-Salam group in Mokwa and the neutralization of another terrorist organization in Minna.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun expressed condolences on behalf of the current Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman. Elleman praised Nsirim’s impact on policing in Niger State and her contributions to national security.
He extended prayers for strength and fortitude to her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
