Save our future — Taraba varsity final-year students beg Kefas to avert strike
Final-year students at Taraba State University (TSU) in Jalingo are urging Governor Agbu Kefas to intervene in ongoing disputes between the state government and the university’s chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to avert a potential indefinite strike.
In an open letter dated September 22, 2026, and signed by “Concerned Final Year Students,” the students expressed their worries about the impact of a proposed industrial action on their upcoming final examinations, scheduled to begin on September 29, 2026.
The letter highlights that any strike occurring at this critical juncture could disrupt the academic calendar and delay their graduation. The students warned that a prolonged strike might also incur additional accommodation and educational expenses, further straining their financial and emotional well-being.
The students called on the state government to engage with ASUU leadership to resolve the outstanding issues and address the union’s legitimate demands. They also requested assurances to both students and parents that the final examinations would proceed as planned.
The letter praised Governor Kefas for his education policies, particularly for the free education initiative, and acknowledged his commitment to students’ welfare.
“We want to write our final exams and graduate in peace. Please save our academic future,” the students implored.
The students’ letter was also sent to the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, the Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University, the Chairman of ASUU (TSU chapter), and the Department of State Services in Taraba State.
