Jigawa State Assembly Passes Supplementary Budget Bill for Review
The Jigawa State House of Assembly approved the first reading of the 2026 Budget Review and Proposed Supplementary Appropriation Bill, totaling 46.3 billion naira, during a plenary session on Wednesday.
Speaker Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin made the announcement following the reading of a communication from Governor Umar Namadi, which requested legislative consideration of the supplementary budget.
In his remarks, the Speaker emphasized that the proposed 46.3 billion naira appropriation aligns with the administration’s goals of enhancing prudence, accountability, and transparency in the state’s financial management. He noted that the review aims to direct available resources toward programs and projects that significantly contribute to the socio-economic development and well-being of residents in Jigawa State.
Following the Governor’s communication, Majority Leader Lawan Muhammad Dansure moved to have the bill read for the first time. The motion received a second from Yahaya Muhammad Andaza, the representative for Kiyawa Constituency, and the bill was formally introduced.
The House then adjourned its session until Thursday, September 24, 2026.
The proposed supplementary appropriation follows approval from the Jigawa State Executive Council, which reviewed the 2026 Appropriation Law, thereby increasing the state’s budget by 46.369 billion naira. If enacted, the revised budget will raise Jigawa State’s total budget from the initial 901.8 billion naira to approximately 948.2 billion naira.
