Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore participated in a protest in New York City on Thursday, advocating for an end to what he described as a genocidal war in Gaza. Sowore, who is a candidate for the Nigerian presidency in 2027, announced his involvement in the protest on his official X account the following day.
During his address at the rally, Sowore criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for alleged human rights violations amid the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “I condemn the genocide being committed by the state of Israel in Gaza,” he stated, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian cause. “I joined to make it clear that Nigerians stand for justice and human rights for Palestinians,” he added.
The protest coincided with Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, where multiple demonstrations against him unfolded. Reports indicated that over 100 individuals were arrested during the demonstration, as thousands of protesters called for accountability regarding Israel’s military actions in Gaza and an end to U.S. military support for Israel.
