I was refused regular jobs because of my physique – Nkubi on why he went into acting

Nigerian Actor Nkubi Discusses Challenges of Living with Dwarfism

Nigerian actor Victor Udochukwu Nwaogu, commonly known as Nkubi, recently shared insights into his decision to pursue acting, attributing his career choice, in part, to the challenges he faced due to his stature.

In a recent episode of the “One On One” podcast, where he appeared with his wife, Nkubi addressed the stigma associated with being a little person. He reflected on the difficulties he encountered after finishing secondary school, noting that he had difficulty securing jobs because of his physique.

“As a child, you barely understand your reality, but you know you are different from others,” he said. “The realization of being a little person hit me hard when I completed secondary school and was unable to find even minor employment like my peers.”

Nkubi expressed concern that his daughter is already subjected to similar stigmatization, as online trolls often make negative remarks about her. He acknowledged that he and his wife had been aware of the likelihood of having a child with dwarfism and prepared themselves emotionally for the possibility.

His wife added that while they were ready to face potential bullying regarding their child’s condition, it remains painful to see her subjected to online harassment without provocation.

She also shared a troubling anecdote, revealing that a doctor had suggested she might consider becoming pregnant with another man to avoid having a child with dwarfism, a proposition she firmly rejected.
