VP Shettima departs for Ethiopia to represent Tinubu at AU Summit

Vice President Shettima Leads Nigeria’s Delegation to AU Summit in Ethiopia
ABUJA — Vice President Kashim Shettima departed from Abuja on Thursday for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 African Union (AU) Summit.
The information was confirmed in a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications.
The summit, themed “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” will focus on advancing continental initiatives aimed at sustainable water management, enhanced sanitation, and broader development objectives outlined in the AU’s Agenda 2063.
During his visit, Shettima is scheduled to participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government and the 30th General Assembly, set to take place on February 14 and 15.
In addition to his main engagements, the Vice President is expected to partake in high-level side events and conduct bilateral meetings with political and business leaders to bolster Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships across the continent.
The Vice President’s delegation includes cabinet ministers and senior government officials. He is anticipated to return to Nigeria upon completing his itinerary in Addis Ababa.
