Durbar: Kano govt warns against defying restrictions
The Kano State Government has issued a warning to traditional rulers, politicians, religious leaders, and community leaders regarding statements or actions that may incite disobedience to lawful directives or threaten peace within the state.
The caution was articulated in a statement by Aminu Hussaini, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters. This announcement followed a video featuring Aminu Babba Dan’Agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba, who expressed his views on recent government restrictions on Durbar activities and addressed ongoing legal proceedings related to the Kano Emirship.
Hussaini emphasized the importance of adhering to lawful directives, stating that while individuals have the right to voice their opinions on public matters, personal interpretations of court rulings do not confer the authority to disregard directives from legitimate public authorities. He advised anyone who perceives a conflict between government directives and court orders to seek clarification from the courts or pursue other legal avenues.
The government urged all parties involved in the Kano Emirship dispute to refrain from making assumptions about the court’s decisions and to allow the legal process to unfold without interference. Officials warned against any actions or statements that could provoke unrest, unlawful disobedience, or a breakdown of public order.
“Legitimate disagreement may be expressed; legal grievances should be pursued through the courts and lawful directives remain binding unless and until set aside, suspended, or otherwise varied by a competent authority,” the statement read.
The Special Adviser’s office reiterated the state government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law, protecting constitutional rights, ensuring judicial independence, and fostering peaceful dispute resolution. Furthermore, it stated that any attempts to mobilize individuals against lawful directives or disrupt public peace would be addressed swiftly and according to the law.
