Supporters Thwart Arrest Attempt of Former Kaduna Governor at Abuja Airport
Supporters of former Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai intervened on Thursday to prevent security personnel from arresting him at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
Reports indicate that operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) attempted to detain El-Rufai upon his arrival. The former governor reportedly resisted the arrest, prompting a protective response from his supporters, who ensured his safe departure from the airport.
Video footage circulated online shows El-Rufai being escorted by supporters chanting expressions of support as they guided him out of the terminal. In another clip, supporters can be heard praising him while facilitating his exit from the scene.
“He is our leader, nothing will happen,” some supporters chanted, reflecting the strong public engagement during the incident.
DAILY POST reported that El-Rufai had recently expressed concerns about a potential arrest, noting that several former associates in Kaduna had already been detained by security agencies. He suggested that he may be next in line for similar action.
