US anti-terror partnership with Nigeria not open-ended support — American firm
A United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has clarified that the U.S. anti-terror partnership with Nigeria is not an indefinite commitment.
The firm issued this statement on its verified social media account on Tuesday, noting that it supports the sale of weapons to Nigeria aimed at addressing insecurity.
“This development highlights the Trump administration’s commitment to counter terrorism in Nigeria,” the firm stated. They praised the administration for providing Nigeria with necessary resources to combat the terrorist threats affecting both U.S. and Nigerian interests.
However, the firm also emphasized that cooperation in combating terrorism does not imply unconditional support for the Nigerian government.
“As articulated before Congress, our shared priorities in fighting terrorism do not extend to endorsing all actions of the Nigerian government,” they added. “The United States will not overlook President Bola Tinubu’s alleged involvement in heroin trafficking from Nigeria to America in the 1980s and 1990s. As the situation in Venezuela illustrates, interests can change.”
