Guinea-Bissau Dominates Nigeria in Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier
BISSAU, Guinea-Bissau — Guinea-Bissau asserted its dominance in Group L of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series with a decisive 3-0 victory over Nigeria on Wednesday.
Both teams entered the match with momentum, having secured wins in their opening fixtures. However, Nigeria struggled to mount an offensive threat for much of the first half.
The turning point came when Guinea-Bissau’s Franculino Djú made a swift run down the right flank, evading defender Bruno Onyemaechi before firing a shot past Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to put the home side ahead.
Guinea-Bissau extended its lead in the 66th minute, with Mama Baldé finding the back of the net. The team capped off the resounding victory with a third goal in stoppage time.
With this win, Guinea-Bissau now holds a three-point advantage at the top of Group L, while Nigeria sits in second place, also with three points.
