EFCC arrests three in Borno over alleged naira mutilation

EFCC Arrests Three in Maiduguri for Allegedly Mutilating Naira
MAIDUGURI, Borno State — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained three individuals in connection with the alleged mutilation of Nigeria’s currency.
The suspects, identified as Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad, and Bashir Musa, were arrested by officials from the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate. Their apprehension follows the circulation of a video on social media, which reportedly shows them using a 500-naira note to wipe mucus from their noses, an act deemed disrespectful to the national currency.
According to a statement posted on the EFCC’s verified Facebook page, the suspects were located and apprehended in Maiduguri after the video garnered significant public attention.
The commission confirmed that the suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. EFCC officials indicated that the individuals would face charges in court once the investigation is complete, in accordance with laws against the mutilation and improper handling of the naira.
