Independence Anniversary: US Mission announces closure of Abuja, Lagos offices
The United States Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will close in observance of Nigeria’s Independence Day holiday on October 1, 2026.
The announcement was made via a post on the official X account of the U.S. Mission on Friday. The post specified, “The US Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will not be open for business on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in observance of Nigeria Independence Day holiday.”
This closure aligns with a declaration from the Federal Government designating Thursday, October 1, 2026, as a public holiday for the celebration of Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
