Boko Haram insurgents attack Adamawa military base, kill three soldiers, forest guard

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on a military base in Garaha-Mojili, located in the Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, late Thursday evening.

Initial reports indicate that the assault resulted in the deaths of three soldiers and a forest guard. Additionally, ten soldiers sustained injuries, and two women were reportedly abducted by the assailants.

Aliyu Yerima Sa’ad Hong, the Chairman of the Hong Local Government Area, confirmed in a telephone interview that the injured soldiers are currently receiving medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Hong town.

According to Hong, the insurgents initiated the attack around midnight, coinciding with the eve of Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary. They arrived on motorcycles, each carrying heavily armed fighters, and engaged in a fierce gun battle with military personnel. The chairman noted that while some insurgents were killed in the confrontation, their bodies were quickly removed from the scene by their colleagues.

“It is profoundly painful that our Independence Day was marked by tears instead of joy. However, the ultimate sacrifice of these officers will never be forgotten; they died protecting our homeland,” Hong stated.

He also mentioned that the local council facilitated the burial of the deceased forest guard and covered the medical expenses for the wounded soldiers following a visit to the hospital.
