Police foil bandit attack, recover rocket launchers in Sokoto

The Sokoto State Police Command successfully thwarted an attack by armed bandits on Tsabre Village in the Isa Local Government Area during the early morning hours of October 2, 2026. Officers engaged in a gun battle with the assailants, recovering two rocket launchers and other items from the scene.
The confrontation began around 1 a.m. when a group of armed bandits entered the village and began firing indiscriminately, creating panic among residents. In response to a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Isa mobilized tactical units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violent Crime Response Unit.
According to a statement from DSP Ahmad Rufai, spokesperson for the police command, officers engaged the attackers in a fierce exchange of gunfire, compelling them to retreat into a nearby forest, where they reportedly suffered casualties.
After the bandits fled, police conducted a search of the area and recovered several items, including two rocket launchers, empty AK-47 magazines, a Tecno phone without a battery, a flashlight, an army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals, and a rain jacket.
Commissioner of Police Hayatu Hassan Shaffa commended the officers for their rapid response and bravery during the operation. He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property throughout Sokoto State, encouraging residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities.
Additionally, the commissioner advised the public to notify police if they encounter anyone seeking medical treatment for suspected gunshot wounds, as efforts continue to locate the fleeing bandits.
