2027: Washington assessing post-Tinubu scenario – Atiku-linked US firm

A U.S.-based firm affiliated with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reported that the Biden administration is considering potential outcomes in Nigeria following the presidency of Bola Tinubu, as the country approaches its 2027 presidential election.
Von Batten Montague York-LC shared these insights in a post on social media platform X on Friday, amid Tinubu’s bid for reelection.
The firm suggested that Tinubu may not secure victory in the upcoming election without what it termed “undemocratic tactics,” specifically referencing the potential for electoral manipulation by the government.
The firm’s stated aim is to ensure that U.S. officials convey to Tinubu and his associates within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that Washington is closely monitoring the electoral landscape.
“Our objective now is to ensure that the United States communicates clearly to President Tinubu and his allies at INEC that it is monitoring developments and that there will be consequences for any actions that silence the will of the Nigerian people and adversely affect U.S. interests in the region,” the firm wrote.
However, it emphasized that the United States is not taking a position in Nigeria’s political affairs.
“Let us be clear: the United States is not taking sides. The next Nigerian president will be decided by the Nigerian people, and the Nigerian people alone,” the firm asserted.
