NUJ draws govt’s attention to deplorable schools, roads in Cross River

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has raised concerns regarding the deteriorating condition of public schools in Cross River State.
During a congress held on Tuesday at the Ernest Etim NUJ Secretariat in Calabar, the state council, led by Comrade Archibong Bassey, highlighted the urgent need for government intervention. They noted that several roads in the Calabar metropolis have become hazardous and are considered “death traps” for residents.
In a nine-point communique signed by Chairman Essien Ita and Secretary Aniekan Aniekan, the union called on relevant education authorities to act swiftly to address these issues. They urged the government to declare a state of emergency in the education sector to elevate standards to modern benchmarks.
“The Congress expressed concern over the deplorable condition of some public schools and roads across the state,” the communique stated.
The NUJ’s call to action reflects broader concerns about the quality of education and infrastructure in the region.
