Police confirm suspected Lakurawa attack on Sokoto community

SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Police Command has reported an attack by suspected Lakurawa militants on the Ungushi community in the Kebbe Local Government Area.
According to the police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ahmed Rufai, the incident was communicated by the Divisional Police Officer in the area. Additional details about the attack are still pending, he said.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants surrounded the community and opened fire on residents. Community vigilantes responded, engaging the attackers in a firefight.
The assault resulted in the deaths of two residents, identified as Ali Kaurar Yaku Marshall and Lukman Bawa, who was a welder.
Additionally, a vigilante named Mustapha Auwalu sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg during the confrontation. He was subsequently transported to the General Hospital, where medical professionals successfully removed the bullet.
