Osun killings: Police deploy tactical teams

The Osun State Police Command has deployed tactical teams to the Oke-Baale area of Osogbo in response to recent incidents of cult-related violence in the state capital. The deployment was ordered by Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Zungura after clashes were reported in the Owo-Eba and Arowomole areas.

According to a statement released Sunday by Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, a violent confrontation occurred in the Owo-Eba area on October 2, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The victims have been identified as Adebayo Taoreed, known as “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, also referred to as “OSHA.” Several others sustained injuries during the conflict, prompting the police to initiate an investigation into the events surrounding the violence.

In a related incident, suspected cultists targeted the Arowomole area on October 4, where a man identified as Rasak Wahab, known as “Ojo Iku,” was shot. He was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he is reported to be responding to treatment.

Commissioner Zungura characterized the recent violence as troubling and has ordered that tactical teams remain in the Oke-Baale area until stability is restored. He instructed these teams to conduct intelligence-driven operations aimed at locating and apprehending known cult members and dismantling their hideouts.

The cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders have been instructed to enhance patrols and gather intelligence.

The police are urging parents, community leaders, and residents to report any suspicious activities or gatherings related to cults. They warned that individuals involved in such activities, along with their sponsors, will face legal consequences.

Law enforcement reassured the public that they are managing the security situation and advised residents to remain calm, refrain from spreading unverified information, and continue with their daily activities.
