16-year-old girl killed while returning from river in Plateau

Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State — A 16-year-old girl, Salomi Ishaya, was killed by unidentified assailants in Bassa Local Government Area. The incident occurred on October 4, 2026, as Ishaya was returning home from a river in Luwaran village, located in the Kawam District.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attack was reported around 7 p.m. Troops from Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), based in Jengre, responded to the incident shortly after receiving the report. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim’s body but did not locate the assailants, who had already fled the scene.

The girl’s remains were subsequently transported to the mortuary at the SDA Hospital Mission in Jengre.

Makama noted that local security personnel are collaborating with Keystone Security operatives in Jengre to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, though the motive remains unclear at this time.
