Two foreigners arrested over alleged burglary, theft of pumping machines in Ogun

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, commonly known as the So-Safe Corps, arrested two individuals on Monday in connection with the alleged burglary and theft of pumping machines in the Ajambata area near Sokoto Road, Atan-Ota.

The suspects, identified only as Monday and Vovo, were apprehended after a community member alerted authorities about individuals suspected of stealing pumping machines.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the Corps Director of Information and Public Relations, indicated that both suspects are originally from Cotonou, Benin Republic, and currently reside in Atan. During preliminary questioning, it was revealed that Monday had been living in Atan for several years, while Vovo had arrived in the area only a few months prior.

Adegbuyi reported that So-Safe Corps operatives, who were patrolling the area, quickly responded to the distress call and apprehended the suspects at the scene. They were subsequently taken to the Atan Area Command of the Corps.

The statement further detailed that during interrogation, Monday denied participating directly in the theft but acknowledged that he often assisted Vovo in selling stolen items, a claim that Vovo confirmed.

Authorities recovered two pumping machines from the suspects, which were later brought to the Area Command. Three individuals subsequently identified and claimed ownership of the recovered items.

The suspects have been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force at the Atan Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and potential prosecution.

In response to the incident, Soji Ganzallo, the State Commander of the So-Safe Corps, emphasized the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He urged community members to remain watchful and report any information that could aid the Corps in fulfilling its responsibilities.
