LAWMA Withdraws Licences Of Six Waste Operators Over Service Failures

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has revoked the operating licenses of six Private Sector Participation (PSP) waste operators due to concerns regarding their ability to provide adequate waste collection services in their designated areas.

Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, announced the decision on Tuesday during a management briefing at the Authority’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, Lagos. He stated that the revocation aligns with the agency’s objective of bolstering the PSP waste collection framework to ensure that operators can meet the necessary service standards.

“Our responsibility is to ensure that every operator serving Lagos residents is capable of delivering reliable and efficient waste collection services,” Gbadegesin said. “When an operator fails to meet these standards, we will take appropriate regulatory measures to safeguard service delivery and protect the interests of residents.”

The six operators affected by this action include K-HS Integrated Services (formerly Gboleybos Nigeria Limited) in Igbogbo-Baiyeku; Deshasat Enterprises in Olorunda; Bailas Nigeria Company in Ojo; Guestimate Environmental Protection Company in Orile Agege; Evabol Ventures in Ajeromi-Ifelodun; and Korad Closet Empire Limited in Ojodu. Specific service locations impacted by this revocation are Ward C1, Slot A in Igbogbo-Baiyeku; Ibereko (LIMCA) in Olorunda; Sabo Oniba in Ojo; Papa Ashafa II in Orile Agege; Oluwa 1 in Ajeromi-Ifelodun; and Oke-Ira/Powerline in Ojodu.

According to Gbadegesin, the revocation stems from the identified deficiencies in the operators’ service delivery capabilities. Notably, K-HS Integrated Services voluntarily withdrew from its service area, while the licenses of the remaining five operators were officially terminated.

The LAWMA leader emphasized that this initiative is part of a larger strategy to enhance the PSP system through improved performance metrics, expanded service coverage, accountability, and effective regulatory oversight. He reassured residents in the affected areas that arrangements would be established to ensure the continuity of waste collection services. Gbadegesin also encouraged residents to utilize approved waste management channels moving forward.
