Three Arrested in Connection with Alleged Murder and Robbery in Oyo State
The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended three individuals linked to the alleged murder and robbery of a family in Oloba village, located in the Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects have been identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo, and Padonu Edward, all residents of the village. They are accused of attacking the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife, and their four children on September 22, 2026.
According to police reports, the suspects entered the residence armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses, and a club. During the incident, they allegedly stole 200,000 Naira in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw, and a spraying machine.
Investigators claim that Hammed Akinbami shot the husband, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward assaulted the wife, hitting her on the head. The suspects are also accused of binding two of the children before throwing them into a nearby river while allegedly killing the other family members, whose bodies were also disposed of in the river.
Following the attack, the police initiated an investigation after receiving credible information on October 2. The three suspects were arrested and reportedly confessed to their involvement during questioning.
Authorities recovered the family’s Boxer motorcycle along with the weaponry believed to have been used in the crime, including one locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses, and a club. The remains of the wife have been recovered, and search efforts are ongoing for the other missing victims.
The case and suspects will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku for further inquiry and legal proceedings.
Oyo State Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga has ordered a comprehensive investigation and stated that anyone found guilty will face justice.
