Man allegedly stabs customer to death over N500 balance for mobile phone purchase

Dutse Local Government Area – The Jigawa State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old man, Lawisi Safiyanu, in connection with the fatal stabbing of 25-year-old Muhammad Abba. The incident reportedly arose from a dispute over a 500 Naira balance related to the sale of a mobile phone.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued to the media. He stated that the altercation occurred around 12:30 a.m. on October 1, 2026, in Chamo village, situated within the Dutse Local Government Area.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Abba had purchased a mobile phone from Safiyanu for a total of 1,500 Naira but was only able to pay 1,000 Naira at the time. The disagreement over the remaining 500 Naira escalated into a confrontation, during which Safiyanu allegedly stabbed Abba with a knife.
Following the stabbing, Abba was transported to Rashid Shekoni Teaching Hospital in Dutse for medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries while receiving care.
Authorities report that Safiyanu was taken into custody, and the weapon allegedly used in the incident has been recovered for further examination. The investigation has concluded, and the suspect has been charged, with legal proceedings now underway.
