Tambuwal sues Sokoto govt over withheld inquiry report
Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has initiated legal action against the Sokoto State Government for its alleged failure to release the report of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry that investigated his administration from 2015 to 2023.
Tambuwal, who currently serves as Senator for Sokoto South, filed the lawsuit under case number SS/133/2026 in the Sokoto State High Court, presided over by Justice Mohammed Mohammed. His counsel, U.O. Sule, SAN, represents him in the matter.
Defendants in the case include Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Sokoto State Commission of Inquiry. Tambuwal’s action arises from claims that the state government, along with the commission, has not provided him with a copy of the report, despite the commission’s proceedings having concluded.
The Judicial Commission of Inquiry was established by the Sokoto State Government to investigate various activities and transactions related to Tambuwal’s tenure. The commission was chaired by Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, a former Chief Judge of Gombe State.
In his lawsuit, Tambuwal is seeking a court order to compel the defendants to make the commission’s findings available to him. He contends that access to the report is vital for understanding the conclusions reached by the commission.
The ongoing case now places the Sokoto State Government and its officials under judicial scrutiny regarding Tambuwal’s request. The court has scheduled a judgment date for November 9, 2026.
