Prophet’s son arrested for impersonating fellow prophet, duping victims of N18m in Ogun

Ogun Police Arrest Suspect for Facebook Fraud
Ilaro, Ogun State — Authorities from the Ogun State Police Command have apprehended Adewale Arojah, the son of a prophet, for allegedly impersonating another prophet on Facebook and defrauding victims of more than 18 million Naira.
Arojah is accused of cloning the Facebook profile of Prophet Dr. Muyiwa Akogun to deceive members of the public, offering false prayers and spiritual assistance.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the arrest followed a complaint lodged on October 3, 2026, by the real Prophet Akogun. He reported that individuals had raised concerns about fraudulent activities carried out in his name.
The Divisional Police Officer of the Ilaro Division promptly dispatched intelligence and detective teams to investigate the matter. Utilizing technological monitoring and data analysis, investigators tracked Arojah to a village in Ajegunle, along the Ilaro-Ibogun axis, where he was arrested.
During interrogation, Arojah reportedly confessed to impersonating Prophet Akogun and claimed to have delivered fake prophecies and prayer services, targeting vulnerable individuals both in Nigeria and abroad. Preliminary investigations indicate that he systematically sought out victims seeking spiritual help through the prophet’s Facebook page, ultimately defrauding them of over 18 million Naira.
The statement noted that Arojah has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and potential prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the Ilaro operatives for their prompt action and emphasized the police command’s commitment to dismantling online fraud networks and preventing identity theft. He urged the public to verify the authenticity of social media accounts before engaging with religious leaders or public figures and advised against sending money for spiritual remedies.
