Islamic Relief Urges Action as Gaza Faces Escalating Violence and Humanitarian Crisis

Israeli military actions have reportedly resulted in the death or injury of a Palestinian in Gaza every 90 minutes on average since a ceasefire was declared in October 2023, according to the aid organization Islamic Relief.
The United Kingdom-based charity announced on Thursday that at least 1,454 Palestinians have been killed and over 5,000 wounded during the past year, including approximately 320 children—nearly one child per day.
Gaza’s Health Ministry corroborated these figures, indicating that 1,471 Palestinians have been killed and 5,189 injured since the ceasefire, with four fatalities and 28 injuries reported in the last 24 hours. The ministry further stated that Israel has caused the deaths of at least 74,254 people since October 2023.
Recent incidents include the killing of a Palestinian by Israeli forces southeast of Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, and an air strike on a residence in Khan Younis that wounded several individuals, as reported by the Palestinian news agency Wafa.
In the occupied West Bank, a 13-year-old boy was shot in the foot during an Israeli raid on the village of Yamoun, located west of Jenin, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.
Islamic Relief noted that Israel has leveraged the “Yellow Line,” which designates areas under Israeli military control, to displace Palestinians from 65% of Gaza. As a result, nearly 2.1 million residents are now confined to the remaining 35%.
An Islamic Relief aid worker, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, commented on the situation, stating, “There is no ceasefire in reality. They target displacement camps and crowded areas, so there is still a lot of fear.”
The organization also highlighted ongoing restrictions by Israel on essential supplies, including shelter materials, fuel, and medical resources. Approximately 82% of Gaza’s infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, over half of healthcare services have ceased operations, and more than 20,000 critically ill patients have been denied permission to seek treatment outside the territory.
Islamic Relief is calling on world leaders to intensify efforts to protect civilians and enforce international law. The organization emphasized, “A ceasefire in name only cannot be an excuse for international inaction.”
