Bauchi Police Arrest Man for Vandalizing Transformer

Bauchi, Nigeria – The Bauchi State Police Command has detained a 32-year-old man, Monday Dauda, on charges of vandalizing an electricity transformer owned by the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) in the Bogoro Local Government Area.

Dauda was apprehended around 12:30 a.m. on October 8, 2026, by officers from the Bogoro Divisional Headquarters during a routine patrol. Police noted that the operatives observed suspicious activity near the transformer, situated on the grounds of Bogoro General Hospital, prompting them to investigate further.

According to a statement released by the police on Friday, the officers discovered that Dauda had removed the transformer’s armoured cable and was in the process of attaching it to a motorcycle, allegedly to steal it.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crime. The police have seized the armoured cable and the motorcycle as evidence.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu praised the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the command’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure throughout the state.

Following the incident, police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib stated that the suspect and the recovered items would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.
