Police arrest 27-year-old ex-convict over alleged POS operator robberies in Awka


The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a 27-year-old man, Chidera Anthony Eleh, commonly referred to as “Timaya,” in connection with a series of motorcycle-assisted robberies targeting Point of Sale (POS) operators in Awka.

The arrest came in response to a video that circulated widely on social media, depicting armed robbers attacking POS operators at Aroma Junction in Awka and stealing cash.

Following the video’s release, police initiated an investigation that culminated in Eleh’s arrest during an intelligence-led operation on the afternoon of Friday, October 9, 2026.

Authorities recovered several items from the suspect, including a motorcycle, an axe, a cutlass, and other implements believed to be associated with the reported crimes.

In a statement, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed Eleh’s arrest and stated that he is currently in police custody. Ikenga added that investigations are ongoing to identify and capture additional individuals who may have been involved in the alleged robberies.
