Cross River Police Arrest Man in Child Abduction Case

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abashi John, in connection with the alleged abduction of an 11-year-old boy in the Edor community of Ikom Local Government Area. The child was later discovered injured in the suspect’s residence.

The incident came to light when the boy’s father, 57-year-old Raphael Eyo, reported to the Edor Police Outpost shortly before 10 p.m. on October 5, 2026. Eyo stated that John had taken his son under the guise of ensuring he returned home safely, after which the boy went missing.

Eyo reported that when he attempted to contact John, the suspect alleged that he had dropped the child off in front of the family home.

However, on the following day, Eyo and several community members visited John’s residence, where they found the child with a head injury in the suspect’s room.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the injury and have detained John at the Edor Police Outpost before transferring him to the Ikom Police Division for further inquiries. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Authorities have emphasized that the boy’s medical needs are being attended to in coordination with his family.

Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue underscored the commitment of the police command to safeguarding children and vulnerable individuals. He urged parents and guardians to stay vigilant and report any missing children or suspicious behaviors to law enforcement.

The police also cautioned the public against speculation and vigilantism, which could hinder the ongoing investigation. They reiterated that the suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
