DSS Rescues Five-Year-Old Kidnapped in Kano

KANO, Nigeria — Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) successfully rescued a five-year-old boy named Muhammad Haruna, who had been kidnapped in Kano State. The operation took place on the evening of February 12, 2026, in Danzaki Village, located within the Minjibir Local Government Area.

According to security sources, the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of 15 million Naira from the boy’s family. The DSS initiated a response after receiving a formal complaint about the abduction.

“The rescue operation commenced around 7:40 PM after we received a report of the kidnapping,” a source informed The Nation.

DSS tactical teams tracked the suspects and executed what officials described as a coordinated operation, resulting in the child’s safe recovery. During the operation, a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Aminu Mukhtar, was apprehended while he was allegedly negotiating the ransom payment with the boy’s father via phone.

Authorities reported that Mukhtar admitted to abducting the child for ransom during initial questioning. He is currently in custody, and an investigation is ongoing.

The rescued boy has been placed under protective care as officials finalize necessary procedures related to the case.
