IPO: Dangote Petroleum Refinery extends offer period by two weeks

By Peter Egwuatu
Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE (DPRP) has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to extend the application period for its Initial Public Offering (IPO) by two weeks. This extension is significant as the offering has already become one of the largest in Nigerian and African capital market history.
The IPO, which involves 4.1 billion ordinary shares priced at N525.00 each, initially opened on September 14, 2026, and was set to close on October 13, 2026. The new deadline for applications will be October 27, 2026.
The decision to extend the application period comes in response to high demand from a wide range of investors both within Africa and internationally. Since the launch of the IPO, interest from investors has indicated strong confidence in Dangote Refinery’s potential for long-term growth and its pivotal role in reshaping Africa’s energy landscape.
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, commented on the IPO’s progress during a recent media interview at the refinery. He highlighted the initiative to include a greater number of participants from Africa, noting, “Following our discussions with the Nairobi Stock Exchange, we have identified what we believe is the best way to facilitate participation. We are now trying to replicate that arrangement with other African exchanges to ensure wider participation.” Dangote also emphasized that while the company has received subscriptions exceeding initial targets, the focus remains on maximizing participation.
According to the company, the additional two-week period will aid in enhancing market access initiatives throughout Africa. These initiatives include expanding distribution channels and implementing unsponsored depository receipt programs to facilitate cross-border investment.
The extension also provides prospective investors with more time to complete necessary account-opening procedures, identity verification, and other regulatory requirements to participate in the IPO.
David Bird, Managing Director and CEO of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE, expressed gratitude for the SEC’s approval of the extension. He stated, “We welcome the SEC’s approval, which will give more investors across Africa the opportunity to participate in the Offer. From the outset, our ambition has been to enable as many people as possible to participate in the IPO and share in DPRP’s future growth. The additional time will help us extend that opportunity to more investors across Africa.”
