Tragedy in Katsina: Police Officer Killed in Attack by Suspected Bandits

MAGAJI, Katsina State — CSP Muhammad Sani Sagir, the Divisional Police Officer of Rimi Local Government Area, was killed Friday morning in an ambush attributed to suspected bandits.

The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. when CSP Sagir and his team responded to a distress call regarding cattle rustling in the Majen-Gobir ward. As they pursued the suspects into a nearby forest, they came under heavy gunfire, leading to a violent confrontation.

CSP Sagir sustained severe injuries and later died from his wounds. Three other police officers and a civilian woman were injured in the attack and have since been transported to a local hospital for treatment.

According to security analysts, the assailants managed to flee with additional stolen livestock. Local sources indicate that one suspected bandit was killed during the exchange and that some of the rustled cattle were recovered.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers as the community grapples with the aftermath of this violent incident.
