Osun police recover mutilated teenager’s remains, arrest suspect

Osun State Police have apprehended a suspect, identified as Saheed Babalola, in connection with the alleged exhumation and mutilation of an 18-year-old girl’s corpse in Feesu community, near Iwo, Osun State.

Babalola was taken into custody after residents reportedly discovered him at the burial site, following unusual noises emanating from the area. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, just a day after the teenager was interred in Olomo Compound, where both she and Babalola resided.

Sources indicated that the young woman had died under what were described as unnatural circumstances the day before her burial. Babalola was said to have participated in the burial alongside other mourners prior to allegedly returning to the site with two accomplices early the next morning.

According to reports, the trio exhumed the body and mutilated it, severing the victim’s head and wrist. Their actions, however, drew the attention of nearby residents who investigated the source of the strange noises.

A resident, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, indicated that community members successfully apprehended one of the suspects while the other two purportedly fled the scene. “Three individuals came to perpetrate the act, but we managed to apprehend one, who was handed over to the police,” the resident stated.

Following the apprehension, Babalola was turned over to police operatives for an in-depth investigation into the alleged desecration of the corpse.

Confirming the incident, Osun State Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abiodun Ojelabi stated that Babalola had been arrested and was cooperating with the ongoing investigation. He noted, “The suspect and the deceased lived at the same address in Olomo Compound, Feesu, Iwo. The incident was reported to the police after residents discovered the alleged act.”

Ojelabi explained that officers from the Iwo Police Division initially arrested Babalola before transferring him to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further inquiry. Investigators later located the victim’s severed head and hand and recovered the remains.

“The investigation is still ongoing. The police are working to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify other individuals who may be involved,” Ojelabi added.
