KADUNA, Nigeria — Kenneth James, 32, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing jewelry valued at N860,000 from his girlfriend, Vivian Gideon, by a magistrate’s court in Kaduna on Wednesday.

James pleaded guilty to a single count of theft before Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who also provided an alternative fine of N50,000. In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered James to reimburse the stolen amount to Gideon.

Emmanuel stated that if James fails to return the money, he would face an extra 10 months in prison. The magistrate advised James to refrain from further unlawful conduct following his release, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law.
