Bauchi mobile court convicts four over environmental violations

A mobile court convened at the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA) recently convicted four individuals for violating sanitation and environmental regulations. The defendants all sought leniency during the proceedings.

Magistrate Laraba Hamisu sentenced Musa Bashir of Magaji Quarters to ten days of community service after he failed to participate in the monthly environmental sanitation exercise. The service will be supervised by the Nigerian Correctional Service in Bauchi and BASEPA.

Malam Bello Hassan of Kur was found guilty of obstructing waterways, while Sarajo Yusuf, Shu’aibu Abubakar, and Adamu Musa, all residents of Zango, were convicted for illegally constructing barriers that blocked a neighbor’s wastewater channel.

Additionally, Barrister M.S. Abdulkarim, representing Bello Hassan, requested an adjournment to allow time to review allegations that his client did not comply with a court order to remove an obstruction from the waterway. The court granted the request and scheduled a new date for the matter to be heard.
