Police arrest three suspects over alleged defilement of minors in Bauchi

Bauchi State Police Arrest Three Suspects in Child Abuse Cases
Bauchi, Nigeria — Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of girls aged nine, 10, and 11, according to the Bauchi State Police Command.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib issued a statement Thursday, emphasizing the increasing vulnerability of children in the state and the urgent need for communal vigilance to protect them from potential predators.
Habib highlighted the importance of collective efforts to not only shield children from abuse but also to ensure that offenders are held accountable.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu expressed deep concern regarding these incidents, reiterating the police command’s commitment to safeguarding children and pursuing justice against those responsible, regardless of their societal standing.
Details of the cases indicate a pattern of exploitation. The first incident was reported on October 12, 2026, at the Tilden Fulani Division in Toro Local Government Area. A mother alleged that Auwal Ibrahim, a 47-year-old resident of Unguwar Sarkin Hausawa, lured her 11-year-old daughter into a secluded area with a promise of N500 and subsequently assaulted her. The girl was later taken to General Hospital, Toro, for medical treatment. Ibrahim initially denied the allegations, prompting investigators to gather evidence at the scene.
In a second case reported on October 13, a mother from Gwallameji alleged that her nine-year-old daughter was repeatedly lured to the home of 35-year-old Sabitu Muhammed, where he allegedly assaulted her. Following the report, police arrested Muhammed and provided medical assistance to the victim. This case has since been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry.
On the same day, a 40-year-old woman reported that her 10-year-old daughter, sent to buy sugar, was intercepted by 22-year-old Anas Adam, who allegedly took her to his home and assaulted her. Investigators visited the site, and the girl received medical examination at the police clinic. Adam was arrested in connection with the incident.
Commissioner Aliyu condemned these alleged acts, describing them as inhumane and emphasizing that they represent a broader assault on society’s values. He assured the victims’ families that thorough investigations would be conducted to secure justice.
Aliyu urged parents, guardians, and community leaders to remain vigilant, closely monitor children, and promptly report any suspicious behaviors or incidents of abuse to local authorities. He reiterated that protecting children is a shared responsibility that is essential for preventing future abuses and safeguarding the well-being of young girls.
