Benue: Gunmen kill one, abduct another in fresh attack on Ogbadibo

Gunmen killed one person and abducted another during an attack on the Adupi-Orokam community in the Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State late Thursday evening, October 15, into the early hours of Friday, October 16, 2026. The incident has raised new concerns regarding the safety of residents in the area.

The deceased has been identified as Emmanuel Odoh, known as “Escape.” The abduction victim is Onyeke Ameh, referred to locally as “Foreign Man.” The attackers reportedly left the community with Ameh, whose current whereabouts are unknown.

This recent attack follows a similar incident less than a month earlier, when Sunday Anthony Ogwuche, known as “Boys Around,” was killed and two young men were abducted from the residence of Chief Mike Igoche.

Chief Mike Enenche Igoche, a candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming 2027 Benue State House of Assembly election, condemned the latest attack and called for immediate action to safeguard the community. He urged Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, Ogbadibo Local Government Chairman Hon. Sunday Ajuwa, and local security forces to enhance their efforts to protect residents and ensure the safe recovery of the abducted individual.

Igoche expressed concern about the ongoing violence in Adupi-Orokam, a community historically known for its peace and security. He criticized the silence of local leaders amid the escalating violence and called for decisive intervention.

Residents and stakeholders have echoed these sentiments, appealing for urgent assistance from local, state, and federal authorities to rescue the abducted resident and hold those responsible for the violence accountable. They cautioned that without prompt and effective action, continued insecurity could drive residents from their homes.

The incident has amplified fears among community members, who are demanding stronger security measures and the prosecution of those involved in the attacks. No official statements from law enforcement or security agencies have been issued regarding this incident as of the time of this report.
