Cross River: Police arrest three more suspects over electricity materials theft

The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended three additional suspects linked to the alleged theft and vandalism of electricity infrastructure in Calabar.

This recent development follows the earlier arrest of Peter Adie, 36, who is considered the prime suspect in the case involving the vandalism of electricity facilities at Agbo Ntoe Layout, located on Boulevard Road 2, near Parliamentary Extension.

According to police reports, operatives expanded their investigation to Murtala Mohammed Highway and a dumpsite in the Harbour area of Calabar, acting on information gathered during Adie’s questioning. Initially, five individuals were taken into custody as part of the inquiry regarding their possible connections to the alleged theft and receipt of stolen electrical materials. However, two of the individuals, identified as Yakubu Musa and Emmanuel Hope, were released after preliminary investigations cleared them of wrongdoing.

The police named the three new suspects, still in custody, as Tochukwu Nwogwu, Boniface Egede, and Mustapha Isa Aliyu. Both Adie and these three suspects remain under police detention as investigations continue.

In a statement issued on Friday, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata indicated that the command is actively pursuing leads to clarify the circumstances surrounding the alleged offenses and ascertain the specific roles of each suspect.

Commissioner of Police Ajo Geoffrey Ordue emphasized the command’s dedication to safeguarding public infrastructure while warning against vandalism and the illegal possession or receipt of stolen electrical materials.

The police also urged members of the public to provide credible information to assist in the investigation and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
