Oyo: Police arrest three men over alleged homosexual acts

Three Arrested in Oyo State for Alleged Same-Sex Acts
SAKI, Oyo State — Law enforcement officials have detained three individuals in Saki for allegedly participating in same-sex acts. The suspects, identified as Ayomide Lukeman, 22, Shuaib Aremu, 22, and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23, were apprehended by the Oyo State Police Command Monitoring Unit.
According to police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the arrests stemmed from intelligence received on September 29 regarding purported unnatural sexual conduct. The Commissioner of Police subsequently instructed the Monitoring Unit to investigate the report and take necessary action, leading to the suspect’s detention.
Ayanlade indicated that preliminary investigations suggested that the suspects had allegedly admitted to engaging in homosexual activities. Two of the men reportedly confessed to having sexual relations with the third suspect on multiple occasions and referred to him as their “wife.”
Investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances surrounding the allegations and to determine if other individuals were involved. Ayanlade emphasized the commitment of the police to conduct the investigation with professionalism and impartiality, assuring the public that appropriate measures will be taken based on the findings.
Under Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2013, same-sex marriages and civil unions are criminalized, with penalties that can reach up to 14 years in prison for individuals convicted of such relationships.
