Osun Amotekun Corps Arrests Five Suspects in Connection with Theft and Burglary

The Osun Amotekun Corps has apprehended five individuals in relation to various crimes, including theft, conspiracy, shop burglary, and fraud, in several locations throughout the state.

The suspects have been identified as Adebisi Olalere, 30; Isiaka Yinusa, 33; and three 30-year-olds: Farika Azeez, Daniel Moses, and Monday Lawrence.

According to a statement released Saturday by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, CSA Yusuf Idowu Abass, the arrests took place on Wednesday, October 14, following community complaints regarding the suspects’ activities.

Corps Commander Adekunle Isaac Omoyele noted that operatives acted on these complaints to apprehend the suspects at various locations, including their alleged hideouts and the scenes of reported incidents.

Olalere, described as a herbalist from Gbongan, was arrested for allegedly conspiring with armed robbers and supplying them with traditional charms to aid in their criminal activities. He was reportedly taken into custody alongside Yinusa, also from Gbongan, who faces charges related to an alleged shop burglary. Yinusa is a former convict who previously served time for motorcycle theft. Both individuals allegedly confessed to their involvement during initial investigations.

In a separate case, Azeez, from Modakeke, was arrested for allegedly stealing a gas cylinder and other items from the community. The Corps noted that Azeez had a history of similar offenses and had previously served a prison sentence, also admitting to the current theft during questioning.

Moses and Lawrence, both from Benue State and residing in Ipinrindo, Atakumosa East Local Government Area, were arrested for the alleged theft of iron rods from the local government secretariat. Moses reportedly confessed to participating in the theft, stating that the stolen iron rods, valued between N50,000 and N100,000, were sold to scrap dealers for between N4,000 and N5,000.

Omoyele indicated that preliminary investigations have led to admissions from some suspects, with others naming additional individuals they believe are connected to the incidents.

The Corps commander urged the public to provide reliable and timely information to security agencies, which can help in preventing crime and addressing potential security threats across Osun State.

The five suspects have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
