Mother allegedly sells one-month-old baby for ₦2 million

Oyo State Police Rescue Abducted Infant, Arrest Three in Alleged Sale Case
The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl who was allegedly sold for 2 million naira. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, which includes the child’s mother and the owner of the health center where the infant was born.
The case emerged from Ido Local Government Area in Ibadan, where 23-year-old Cecilia Amos, the baby’s mother, and 40-year-old Dr. Adeleke Ebenezer, proprietor of Ebepraise Health Centre, were taken into custody. Additionally, a third suspect, identified as Hassan Oludunni, has also been implicated in the alleged trafficking.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the developments in a statement issued on Friday. The situation first came to light on October 15, when Mary Amos, Cecilia’s mother, reported her daughter’s disappearance and the baby’s potential sale to the authorities around 6 p.m.
Mary informed the police that Cecilia gave birth to the baby girl at Ebepraise Health Centre on September 6 but had vanished with the child about a week later. Upon questioning, Cecilia reportedly failed to explain the whereabouts of the baby, raising suspicions that the child may have been sold.
Authorities apprehended Cecilia for questioning, during which she allegedly admitted that Dr. Ebenezer and Oludunni had convinced her to participate in the transaction. Investigations revealed that the baby was sold for 2 million naira, with Cecilia receiving 1 million naira, while Ebenezer and Oludunni reportedly each received 500,000 naira.
The police managed to rescue the infant and arrested Ebenezer in connection with the alleged sale. Efforts to locate Folawewo, another individual allegedly involved in the transaction, are ongoing, with law enforcement emphasizing the importance of bringing all parties associated with the case to justice.
The police reiterated their dedication to protecting children and vulnerable individuals within the community. They encouraged residents to report any suspected cases of child trafficking or related offenses promptly. The public can reach the Oyo State Call Response Centre at the toll-free number 615 or contact the police command control room at 08081768614 or 07055495413 for emergencies or suspicious activity.
As of now, the police have not disclosed whether all suspects involved in the alleged transaction have been apprehended.
