LASTMA arrests two drivers after crash leaves four passengers injured in Lagos

Two drivers were arrested following a traffic collision involving a Toyota Highlander and a Mazda commercial bus in Lagos State’s Otedola area, near the Berger Junction. The incident, which occurred during the morning rush hour, resulted in serious injuries for four passengers, including multiple fractures.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the crash took place on a main roadway heavily congested at the time. LASTMA operatives, along with personnel from the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), responded promptly to assist the injured passengers and manage traffic in the area.

According to LASTMA, the injured individuals were quickly extricated from the scene and transported to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for urgent medical care.

LASTMA officials stated that they mobilized rapidly to initiate rescue operations and implemented traffic control measures to mitigate the impact of the accident and to safeguard other road users from potential danger.

The agency highlighted that their swift and coordinated response was crucial in preventing a subsequent collision that could have endangered additional motorists and commuters. Support from security personnel from the Isheri Police Division helped maintain a secure environment for first responders and officials at the site.

As part of their standard road safety enforcement protocols, LASTMA apprehended both drivers involved in the accident and handed them over to the police for a thorough investigation and potential prosecution.

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki praised the agency’s operatives, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), LASAMBUS personnel, and Isheri Police Division security officials for their professionalism and prompt action during the rescue effort.

Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of timely mobilization and collaboration among various agencies, particularly on busy roads where delays can exacerbate the effects of traffic accidents. He also urged motorists to drive responsibly, adhere to traffic regulations, and maintain focus while behind the wheel.

He reiterated that preventable road crashes pose a significant threat to public safety and efficient transportation in Lagos State. LASTMA remains committed to enhancing emergency response protocols, improving traffic monitoring, and enforcing regulations to protect lives and ensure the orderly movement of vehicles across the state.
