Abuja police nab eight one-chance suspects, three armed robbery suspects

Police Commissioner Announces Arrests in Recent Crime Investigations

Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi announced on Tuesday the arrest of eight suspected “one-chance” robbers during a press briefing on the command’s recent achievements. The arrests followed an investigation into an incident involving the wife of a police officer, who reported being robbed after getting into a taxi at the AYA Roundabout.

Sanusi stated that upon receiving the report, he directed the command’s tracking unit to conduct a thorough investigation. Utilizing digital reconstructive technology, investigators deconstructed the entire criminal operation, traced electronic transactions, and located the victim’s mobile phone, which ultimately led to the apprehension of the eight suspects.

The suspects were identified as Yunusa Sani, Ismail Mohammed, Abubakar Usman, Haruna Musa, Abdulrazaq Mohammed, Isah Abdulrahman, Isa Abdullahi, and Aliyu Shuaibu. Further investigations resulted in the recovery of 21 mobile phones and three laptops, including the victim’s device.

“Investigations revealed that Haruna Musa specializes in altering the IMEI numbers of stolen devices before reselling them to evade detection,” Sanusi said. The commissioner indicated that police have also identified and tracked individuals suspected of receiving the stolen property. All suspects and recovered items are in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate operation, the command arrested Chibuike Odeh, a suspect in an armed robbery case, in the Daki-Biyu area of Jabi District. His arrest followed a robbery complaint reported at the Jabi Police Division on October 18, stemming from an incident that reportedly occurred on September 26.

According to Sanusi, the victim was returning home from work when Odeh, wearing a face mask, allegedly attacked her with a knife, stealing her handbag, which contained an iPhone and other valuables. The suspect also reportedly withdrew money from the victim’s bank accounts using her phone and ATM card.

Following the complaint, a surveillance team was deployed to the suspect’s last known location, leading to his arrest at his residence in Daki-Biyu. A search of the premises resulted in the recovery of a bag, knife, sharp iron, black face mask, power bank, and a voter’s card. Odeh remains in police custody and is expected to face charges upon completion of the investigation.

Additionally, Sanusi reported the arrest of two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate, Jamilu Abdulsalam and Ibrahim Isa Sani, on September 17. Intelligence suggests that the syndicate operated across Abuja and parts of Nasarawa, Niger, and Kogi states. The commissioner indicated that the suspects, along with their alleged accomplices, studied their targets’ movements before carrying out armed attacks to steal valuables.
