Trump commits more than $400m ahead of high-stakes midterm elections | US Midterm Elections 2026 News

Donald Trump, the former president of the United States, announced plans to deploy over $400 million to assist Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections on November 3. This financial commitment comes as the Republican Party aims to retain control of Congress amidst various challenges.
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Tuesday, Trump indicated that a significant portion of the funds had already been allocated for campaign activities. He stated, “More than 300 million dollars has already been spent on advertising, direct and indirect voter contact, rallies, rally arenas, telerallies, get-out-the-vote programs, election integrity, and more.”
Trump expressed his pride in supporting the Republican Party, claiming it has contributed significantly to revitalizing the nation. He characterized the forthcoming elections as “the most important midterm elections in our country’s history.”
He did not provide a detailed breakdown of how the funds would be distributed, including the amount designated for individual races. Nevertheless, the announcement of this financial influx arrives as Trump’s party grapples with declining opinion ratings and challenges related to the economy and the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict involving Iran.
Recent polling data from Reuters and Ipsos showed Trump’s approval rating at just 31 percent, reaching record lows. This has prompted some Republicans to distance themselves from his leadership, while others rally for increased support, especially in tight races against Democrats.
Questions have arisen regarding whether Trump and his allies will utilize the significant funds amassed by MAGA Inc., a super PAC organized to support his “Make America Great Again” movement. As a super PAC, MAGA Inc. can raise unlimited contributions for federal candidates, but it is legally required to operate independently from their campaigns.
Last month, the Campaign Legal Center, a campaign finance watchdog, accused Trump of crossing legal boundaries by asserting control over MAGA Inc.’s expenditures. They referenced a September 4 interaction where Trump stated he would spend “whatever amount of money necessary” to assist the GOP, adding that funds from MAGA Inc. are under his control.
According to its latest federal filing, MAGA Inc. reported $415.8 million in cash reserves at the start of September, positioning it as a formidable financial asset for the Republican campaign.
Despite this considerable funding, Trump has voiced skepticism about the super PAC’s effectiveness, questioning why its substantial spending has not significantly improved Republican polling in critical areas like Ohio.
In addition, Trump-aligned organizations, including the newly formed No Going Back PAC and Safety and Affordability PAC, have ramped up political advertising efforts. Data from AdImpact revealed that the No Going Back PAC alone invested $68.7 million in political ads last month.
Tech entrepreneur Elon Musk, a Trump ally, reportedly contributed $366 million to Republican efforts through America PAC and other conservative initiatives since last year.
As the midterms approach, Trump has embarked on a 32-day campaign tour, with upcoming events scheduled in South Carolina and Iowa. The implications of this election are significant, with control of Congress at stake. While the Republican Party currently holds narrow majorities in both the Senate and the House, Democrats aim to leverage Trump’s dwindling approval ratings to flip seats in both chambers. Success in this endeavor could potentially obstruct Trump’s legislative agenda in the final two years of his presidency.
