Defection of some candidates to APC good riddance to bad rubbish — NDC

NDC Responds to Defections, Claims Bribery by APC

ABUJA – The national leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has characterized the recent defection of several party members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a welcome departure.

In a statement issued yesterday, National Publicity Secretary Osa Director alleged that the defections were influenced by financial incentives provided by the APC. He claimed that the ruling party resorted to bribery, offering money, political appointments, and other benefits to entice certain candidates from the NDC.

“We have become aware that some candidates in our party have been bribed by the APC to defect to the ruling party for monetary gains,” Director stated in the announcement. “The NDC is fully cognizant of these desperate tactics employed by the APC to lure individuals with questionable values.”

Director continued, stating that those who have chosen to align with the APC lack the dedication and principles associated with the NDC. “To those who have succumbed to this inducement, we say good riddance. They were never truly committed to our cause, and we wish them well in their future political endeavors,” he remarked.

In accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act of 2026, the NDC plans to hold fresh congresses to appoint new candidates to replace those who have defected.

The party also sought to reassure its supporters, stating that the defection of a few members does not reflect the integrity or strength of the NDC. “These actions are merely the last efforts of a distressed party facing imminent defeat,” the statement continued. “The NDC is steadfast in its commitment to returning good governance, security, and prosperity to Nigeria.”
