Yobe court sentences man to death by hanging for killing wife

DAMATURU, Nigeria — A 45-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, also known as Daddy, has received a death sentence by hanging from the Yobe State High Court 1 for the murder of his wife, Ammi Mamman.

The verdict was announced on Wednesday, nearly two years after the incident. Musa was arrested on January 4, 2024, by the Yobe State Police Command in connection with his wife’s death, which occurred at their residence in New Bra-Bra Housing Estate, Damaturu. Following his arrest, he was charged with culpable homicide.

In its ruling, the court rejected Musa’s not-guilty plea, citing credible evidence presented during the trial. The prosecution was able to establish all elements of culpable homicide beyond a reasonable doubt.

As a result, the court found Musa guilty and imposed the death sentence. The ruling stipulates that he has the right to appeal the decision within the legally prescribed timeframe; otherwise, the sentence will be carried out.
