Ogun State Police Make Arrest in Murder of Retired Teacher

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspect in the murder of 61-year-old retired teacher Mrs. Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun, who was found dead in her home in Agbaakin Emere, Bode-Olude, Abeokuta.

Saburi Lateef Ayinde, also known as “Oki-Ocean,” was taken into custody on Monday following months of investigative work. Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi provided details in a statement released on Thursday.

The body of Mrs. Oluwaseun was discovered in her toilet on February 28, 2026, one day after she returned from a retirement celebration hosted by her colleagues.

Following the initial discovery, the case was transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, where further investigation was conducted. Preliminary findings suggest that the victim was strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.

According to authorities, Ayinde has confessed to the crime, claiming it stemmed from financial dealings with the deceased. He stated that he had entrusted her with ₦3,450,000 for safekeeping, based on an agreement that she would lend him ₦1,500,000 to purchase another vehicle.

“Detectives are working to corroborate his account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder,” Babaseyi said.

Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni commended the investigative team for their determination and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to investigating serious crimes thoroughly and ensuring that offenders face justice.

The police have indicated that Ayinde will be charged in court once the investigation is complete. They also encouraged residents to resolve disputes peacefully and to report any criminal activities promptly.
