Youth Leader Seeks Investigation into Alleged Murder in Taraba State

KARIM-LAMIDO, Taraba State — Sunday Tata, the youth leader of Salakan Kode in the Karim-Lamido local government area, has formally requested a comprehensive investigation into the alleged murder of Mr. Freedom Yusuf Salakan.

In a petition submitted to the Taraba State police commissioner on October 28, 2026, Tata urged the Taraba State Police Command to look into the incident, which reportedly took place on October 26, 2026. The petition states that Salakan was allegedly shot while returning from the market in the Karim-Lamido area.

The document further alleges that the assailants stole the victim’s motorcycle, phone, and money before fleeing the scene, where Salakan succumbed to his injuries.

Tata, representing both the victim’s family and the broader Salakan community, identified two individuals he claims were involved in the attack. He requested that the police commissioner initiate an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder and the related robbery.

Additionally, the petition called for the immediate arrest of the identified individuals for questioning and possible prosecution. Tata emphasized the incident as a serious infringement on the victim’s right to life and urged law enforcement to take swift action to ensure justice for Salakan and his family.

The petition was submitted through the Divisional Police Officer of the Karim-Lamido Division to the Taraba State police commissioner, based in Jalingo.
