26-Year-Old Arrested in Alleged Assault of 17-Year-Old in Owerri
OWERRI, Imo State – Imo State Police have arrested Ifeanyi Chukwu Joseph, 26, in connection with the alleged assault of a 17-year-old girl, Chiamaka Chukwuokorie, who is reportedly the sister of his girlfriend. The incident occurred on November 1, 2026, at approximately 1:00 PM when Joseph allegedly pushed Chukwuokorie from the second floor of a building on Mbonu Ejike Street in Ikeneagbu.
According to a statement from police spokesperson Henry Okoye, the victim sustained serious injuries and was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where she is currently listed in critical condition.
Following the incident, a crowd gathered and attempted to harm Joseph. However, police intervened swiftly, ensuring his safety and subsequent arrest. Authorities have indicated that Joseph is being investigated to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to facilitate any needed legal proceedings.
In light of the ongoing investigation, police officials have cautioned the public against spreading unverified information on social media. Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso reassured the community that the police are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served. “The public is advised to exercise restraint and rely on official sources for accurate updates,” the release stated.
