Lagos seals 45 buildings over planning violations

The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) has sealed over 45 buildings in the Eko and Ifako-Ijaiye districts due to alleged violations of physical planning regulations.
The enforcement actions were conducted by the agency’s Monitoring and Compliance Unit, which operated in Ifako-Ijaiye on Wednesday and in Eko District on Thursday. In total, 25 properties were sealed in Ifako-Ijaiye for various infractions, including operating without valid planning permits, excessive building density, unauthorized remodeling, deviations from approved building plans, and construction without necessary approvals.
In a subsequent operation in Eko District, the authority reported sealing more than 20 additional buildings for similar violations. Specifically, 10 properties were sealed for deviating from their approved plans, while five were cited for excessive density. Five others faced sanctions for undertaking remodeling without the required permits. Additional properties were also sealed for beginning or continuing construction without the requisite planning approval.
LASPPPA noted that the owners and developers of these properties had previously received contravention notices from district offices but did not rectify the identified issues. “Contravention notices had been served by the district office previously, but compliance was not achieved,” the agency stated.
The authority has urged affected property owners and developers to visit the nearest LASPPPA district office or its headquarters located at Oba Akinjobi Way, GRA, Ikeja, to regularize their documentation and seek further assistance.
